Captain Russ served for 22+ years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a First Sergeant in 2014.  He has loved the water and being around boats since his youth. Once retired, he started spending more time on the water trying a new hobby at paddleboard fishing.  He got quite creative at balancing on his board, reeling in fish, and storing them in homemade contraptions until it was time to head home.  It did not take long for Russ to make up his mind to save money and purchase a small 19-foot fishing boat to allow more extended time on the water and an enhanced angler experience compared to paddleboard fishing.  For the last 4 years, he has enjoyed taking family and friends out to fish, whale watch, and follow dolphins out of Dana Point Harbor and along the Orange County coastline.  Over time, with the support of his wife, Vanessa, they both felt led to turn their hobby and passion of being on the open ocean into an outreach ministry to encourage others during trials in their lives and bring hope to the less fortunate.  Flash forward to today, Captain Russ has earned his 6-Pack Captain’s license from the Maritime Institute in San Diego, CA.  He also upgraded to a 2017 21-foot Parker vessel in order to accommodate
groups of up to 6 people for casual harbor cruising, sea life tours, and intimate fishing excursions. Seaworthy Charters recreational boating was created as a division of Seaworthy Outreach to cover costs for the boating ministry side.

Their college-aged daughter, Malaika, attends Clemson University School of Business in South Carolina and helps with artwork and marketing.  Their son, RJ, attends San Clemente High School and is a gifted athlete on Varsity football, rugby, and track. Together, Russ and Vanessa, aspire to share the joy of fishing and the calmness of being on the water with those interested, especially the marginalized and forgotten in the community.  Ocean therapy can do wonders for the soul and they aim to provide a compassionate Christ-centered outdoor activity in nature, creating memories on the water and allowing Christ to use them to bless others with the possessions He has entrusted them.
